With great sadness, we announce the passing of Laura Georgina Alvarez (nee Carlo) on January 28, 2024.

She passed away peacefully at Valley View Nursing Home in Goshen after a long illness at the age of 90.

Laura was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and migrated to New York in the 1950s.

She was a 28-year resident of Orange County. She leaves behind her daughter, Laurie Alvarez Isabelle (Jim) of Monroe, New York, and her grandchildren, Alexandra (Daniel Staffa) (Rockville Centre, LI) and Jimmy (US Army Staff Sergeant), and her 17-month-old great grandson, Colton.

 She was also survived by a sister, brother, and many nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Leticia Torres, who regularly visited the nursing home.

She is pre-deceased by her late husband, Pablo Alvarez. Laura will be remembered for her fervent love of her family and her passion for Scrabble.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950.

Cremation care will follow at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, NY, under the supervision of Brendan & Thomas Flynn.
