Marian Zangrillo of Chester, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. She was 91 years old.
Born in Pine Island, New York, on January 2, 1934, Marian was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Bierstine. A lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, Marian was deeply devoted to her family, her faith, and her community. She was a proud and active member of St. Columba R.C. Church, where she contributed her time and heart to many parish activities. Her generous spirit extended to the Chester Kiwanis Club, where she served with distinction, and to the Ladies Auxiliary of both St. Columba Church and the American Legion.
As co-chairwoman of the Chester Kiwanis Toyland Project, Marian brought joy to countless families during the holiday season, a reflection of her unwavering compassion and service to others. She spent many years as a secretary with the Chester School District, where her dedication and warmth touched the lives of students, parents, and staff alike. After retiring, she continued to support her family by helping to manage the books for the family farm.
Marian was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Zangrillo, and her niece, Josephine “Joni” Thomas. She is survived by her loving son, Thomas J. Zangrillo of Estero, Florida, and her cherished grandchildren: Julia, Lauren, Rachel, and John Zangrillo, who brought her immense pride and joy.
Marian’s life was marked by kindness, humility, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her deep faith, and the legacy of love and service she leaves behind.
Visitation will occur on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 3 Hudson Street, Chester, NY 10918.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10 am at St. Columba R.C. Church, 27 High Street, Chester, NY 10918.
Burial will follow at St. Columba Parish Cemetery, 3335 NY-94, Chester, NY 10918.
The family has entrusted Marian's care to the Flynn family and Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Center's staff.
