July 29, 1952 — January 29, 2024

John Michael Mangan of Harriman, a 48-year resident of the area, passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 29th, 2024, at Garnet Health Hospital. 

He was 71 years old.

The Son of Raymond J Mangan and Kathleen Mangan (Kilbride).

 He was born on July 29th, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY.

He attended high school at Brooklyn Technology, where he enjoyed being part of the archery team. During his years at Pace University, John worked as an Auxiliary Police Officer and NYC yellow cab taxi driver. 

He was a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Society.

 After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, John entered the computer industry and became a programming analyst for 30 years with IBM and P & O Nedlloyd.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Monroe Council 2079 as a 3rd &4th Degree knight. He was actively involved at all stages of the Boy Scouts of America, including Troop Leader of Pack 540 and Cub Scout leader of Pack 440.

He loved fishing, camping, canoeing, and hiking. He passed his love of collecting coins, rocks, and outdoor activities to his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 46 years, Marie Ann Mangan.

His five children, Brian Mangan (Jennifer) of Jamestown, North Carolina, Sean Mangan (Jesse) of Valley Cottage, New York, Sgt. Thomas Mangan (Lindsey) of Toms River, New Jersey, Eric Mangan (Ada) of Washingtonville, New York, and Tiffany Danko (Todd) of Campbell Hall, New York.

His nine Grandchildren Thomas Jr., Alia, Riley Lucas, Aidan, Jack, Lilia, Liam, & Keane. Sister Susan Mangan and Sister-in-law Erica Mangan. Numerous Nieces & Nephews.

His brothers Raymond “Billy” Mangan and Richard Mangan predeceased him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 5th, 2024, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950.

A Funeral Mass will occur on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, at 10 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 21 N Main Street, Harriman, NY 10926.

 Interment will take place after the Funeral Mass at St. Anastasia Cemetery.
