Lois Powers Childers of New Windsor, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021. She was 69 years old. She was born in Queens, NY, and grew up on Long Island. She attended E.L. Vandermeulen High School and earned degrees from Concordia College, the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and the State University of New York at New Paltz. She was a gifted teacher who touched the lives of students in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District and the Brevard County (Florida) Schools. A treasured colleague referred to the impact she had as she taught both students and colleagues - "Those who took her course, 'The Writer's Notebook,' experienced firsthand her passion for teaching and her creative, fierce intellect. Through all of the teachers that took her course, she made a difference in the lives of so many students that she would have never met." She is survived by her sister, Gail Powers Tummarello, her niece, Katherine Tummarello, her sister-in-law Teresa Powers, and her nephews Scott, Andrew, and Todd Powers. She was predeceased by her ex-husband Clarence "Bud" Childers, her parents Edward Powers and Vera Powers Russo, and her brothers Wayne Powers and Bryan Powers.
