Leopold Christopher Badolato Leopold Christopher Badolato, a 29-year resident of Monroe, passed peacefully to Heaven on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at his home in Monroe, surrounded by family and loved ones. Fondly known in the community as "Pop," the son of the late Nancy and Charlie Badolato was born on October 29, 1926 in the Bronx, N.Y. Leo married the love of his life, Catherine "Kitty" Badolato, on October 29, 1949 at Mount Carmel Church in the Bronx. Leo and Kitty were the proud parents of sons, Charles James (Charlie) of Monroe, and David (Dave) Jerome of Otisville. Leo was dearly loved as a second dad by David's wife, Fina. Leo proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict, as a Navy Seaman First Class. His military career was defined by an act of kindness to a fellow soldier, for which he received a ceremonial military sword. Leo retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in the Bronx after 40 years of dedicated service. Leo was beloved and admired by the folks on his routes; he always had a bright grin and a kind word for everyone. In fact, Leo's glowing smile and sunny spirit lit up the world. Leo was blessed with many loving family members and friends who were dear to his heart. Along with Kitty's sisters, Marie and Camille, and their husbands Pat and Nick, Leo and Kitty enjoyed many happy times together as best friends and loving, supportive family members - actually, they considered each other as brothers and sisters: "The Six Musketeers." A devoted husband and father, Leo enjoyed spending time with sons Charles and David. Among Charles' fond memories are Leo taking him on long walks, bike rides, to ballgames, professional wrestling matches, and to the Bocce courts in the Bronx. David fondly recalls how Leo's life was focused on making his sons happy; even ensuring that, as a youngster, Dave wasn't disappointed when the Christmas gift he wanted was sold out. Amazingly, that gift was under the Badolato tree that holiday. Leo is survived by his loving sons Charles of Monroe; David and his wife Fina of Otisville; sister Connie and her husband Richard Petrone of Myrtle Beach, S.C., sister-in-law Camille Boscia of Lindenhurst, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews and cousins, who all loved him dearly. Leo was predeceased by his wife Catherine; infant daughter Cynthia Ann; infant son Leo Jr.; sister-in-law Marie Chianese and brother-in-law Pat Chianese, and brother-in-law Nick Boscia; and several cousins. Leo had a lifelong love of music, which his son David inherited, particularly swing music and Big Band music. Leo's lifelong love of football and history was inherited by his son Charles. Leo enjoyed watching TV westerns, especially Davy Crockett, as well as watching professional wrestling, which he inherited from his father, Charles. Family trips to Tibbets Brook Park in Westchester County and the 1982 Badolato Family Reunion in Pittsburgh, Pa., are among the many fond traveling memories highlighting the family's closeness. Following Leo's retirement, he and Kitty enjoyed traveling to places such as Mohonk Mountain House and Amish country with members of The Jolly Senior Citizens Club in Monroe. One of the few men on the Jolly Senior trips, Leo made sure that all the ladies boarded and left the buses safely, always the perfect gentleman. He was beloved by everyone in the club, and he and Kitty made many nice friends there. The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Leo's devoted caregivers, especially Annie McMahon and her daughter, Jennifer, who became family and were dearly loved by Leo; Dr. Alan Schaffer and staff of Goshen Medical Associates; and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, especially Sister Anne Daly, for the compassionate, loving care given to Leo. Visitation was held on February 10 at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 139 Stage Road, Monroe, N.Y. A funeral mass was celebrated February 10 at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, N.Y. Burial followed at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery on 111 Craigville Road in Goshen.
