She was born on May 18, 1924, in London, England, the daughter of the late John and Mary Garrett.
Joan was the widower of the Frank Nelson.
Her children and their spouses survive Joan, Michael, Julia Nelson of California, Elaine and Robert Ellsworth of Lagrangeville, NY, and Janet and Keith Mitchell of Lake Sacandaga, N.Y.
Joan is survived by her four grandchildren, Stephen Schofield, Melanie Stevens, Allison Palmer, and Michael Nelson, as well as her two great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be no visitation.
Brendan and Thomas Flynn provide cremation care at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, NY.
The family entrusted Joan's care to Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers.
