Douglas MacLean, a retired Printer for Newsday, a former longtime resident of St. James, New York, then Canann, N.Y., and a four-year resident of Goshen, N.Y., died on December 20, 2023, at Glen Arden in Goshen, New York. He was 83 years of age.


Douglas was born on May 17, 1940, in Oceanside, Long Island, N.Y. At 18, he joined the Oceanside Fire Company, and at age 56, he joined the Canaan Protective Fire Company in Canaan, N.Y. He was known for extensively volunteering for Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, MA, especially with fundraising dinners.


He loved family, card games, horse racing, and a perfect rare filet. He was genuine in everything he said and did and would always tell you the truth.


Survivors include his wife Muriel MacLean of Glen Arden, son Donald MacLean of Eldersburg, MD, and daughter Lorraine MacLean Schomber of Pine Bush, N.Y.


His grandchildren, Eric Schomber, Marc Schomber, Rachel MacLean Wilson, Rebecca MacLean, Luke MacLean, Morgan MacLean, and one great-grandchild, Jeremiah MacLean Wilson, also survived him.


Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950.


Services will be held at the Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 PM.


Cremation care will be provided by Brendan & Thomas Flynn at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, N.Y.


The Flynn Family and Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Center staff provide funeral services.


Memorial contributions to Memorial Sloan Kettering for Cancer Research, 1275 York Avenue, New York, New York 10065, would be appreciated instead of flowers.
